Paul Swearingen

Paul was born and raised in Winnsboro, and graduated from Fairfield Central High School. He attended Spartanburg Methodist College, where he was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa and was named a 1993 National Junior College Academic All-American, graduating Summa Cum Laude with an Associate in Arts degree. He then transferred to Newberry College, where he was admitted to the Bachman Scholastic Honor Society, named to the National Dean's List, and earned the All-American Scholar Collegiate Award, graduating Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science. He received his Juris Doctorate from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1998, and was admitted to the South Carolina Bar that same year.

After law school, Paul began practicing law in Winnsboro, first with Kenneth G. Goode & Associates, then with Koon & Cook, P.A., and then with Coleman Tolen & Swearingen, LLC, before starting his own practice and joining Mike Kelly Law Group as Of Counsel. He is a member of the South Carolina Bar and the Fairfield County Bar, and served the South Carolina State Bar as a member of the House of Delegates for the 6th Judicial Circuit from 2009-2011. He has served on numerous occasions as a Guardian ad Litem and as a Special Referee for Fairfield County.

Paul is very active in the community, and has served on numerous boards and committees. He is a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Winnsboro, where he has served on the Board of Directors, and the Winnsboro Rotary Club, where he has served both on the Board of Directors and as President. Paul has also served on the Fairfield Behavioral Health Services Board, the Fairfield County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs Capital Campaign Funds Committee, and on the Board of Directors of Richard Winn Academy, where he served as Chairman from 2011-2012. He has also volunteered as a youth baseball and basketball coach.

Paul most enjoys spending time with his wife and their four children. He enjoys reading, traveling, and attending sporting events. His interests include sports and movies, and he has worked as an extra in two movies filmed in the Columbia area.
