It is hard to believe that it is already September, but sure enough, Labor Day weekend is upon us! Labor Day traditionally signifies the end of the summer season and the start of fall activities like football games, baseball playoffs, and the delightful fall festivals for which many of South Carolina’s small towns are known. This year, of course, the holiday—and the forthcoming fall festivities it promises—will be very different from what we’re used to as we continue to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and practice social distancing.
However, even though this Labor Day weekend may not be the celebration we’re accustomed to, I would urge everyone to use the holiday as an opportunity to relax, take some time for yourself, and unwind. Due to travel restrictions and thwarted vacation plans, many people have not taken a break from work during this extraordinarily stressful year. Taking time off helps keep stress at bay and is essential to our wellbeing—now, more than ever, we need to take a pause! So this weekend, I plan to kick back, unplug, and count my blessings, and I encourage you all to do the same!
